The Story Behind the Books

For years I looked like a guy who had it all figured out. High-stakes career, strong marriage, three kids, two dogs, a packed calendar full of wins. What nobody saw was the anxiety I was white-knuckling behind the scenes, the belief that if I just controlled everything hard enough, I could keep it from falling apart.

Then it fell apart anyway. COVID hit, my world took a hard turn, and I found myself standing in the middle of a life I no longer recognized. A panic attack on stage, mid-talk, was the moment I stopped pretending. I got help. Real help. Therapy, mentors, prayer, and a long, humbling process of rebuilding from the inside instead of managing the outside. It didn't happen overnight, but I found my way back to something steadier, calmer, and a lot more honest.

That road is why I do what I do now. I'm the founder of Life In Process and host of The Calm and Confident Leader podcast, and I've written three books, including The Calm and Confident Leader. I coach executives, entrepreneurs, and leaders who are tired of running on empty, using a mix of practical strategy and real inner work. I've got a Master's in Counseling, I'm certified in StratOp, and I once took improv comedy classes, which turns out to be great training for both public speaking and not taking yourself too seriously.

I live in Shallotte, NC with my wife Amy, our dog Skye, and two cats who think they own the place, Harvey and Crackers. Between us we've got six adult kids and ten grandkids, and we spend most free weekends chasing good coffee, better beaches, and a restaurant worth the drive. If you're carrying more than you were built to carry alone, I get it. I've been there, and I'd love to walk the next stretch with you.
